Family carer supports in Ireland
The person receiving care and the carer can have separate entitlements and separate support needs.

Which payment?
Carer’s Allowance is means-tested; Carer’s Benefit is PRSI-based and linked to leaving/reducing work; the Carer’s Support Grant may be automatic with some qualifying payments or separately claimable.
Independent practical support
Family Carers Ireland provides information and support services in addition to state payments.
Keep the cared-for person’s route separate
A carer payment does not replace the cared-for person’s own HSE, education, adult-service or payment application.
Employment and tax routes for carers
Statutory Carer’s Leave can run alongside, but is legally distinct from, Carer’s Benefit. Revenue also has a separate tax-relief route for qualifying costs of employing a carer; it can interact with other tax credits, so check Revenue’s restrictions before claiming.
