ADHD supports in Ireland

Combine public-service routes with ADHD-specific support; do not assume adult public assessment availability is identical in every region.

Children and school

School support should start with the child’s functional and learning needs. ADHD Ireland provides school resources and programmes; NCSE/school supports may also be relevant depending on the student’s needs.

Adults and assessment

The HSE has an Adult ADHD Model of Care, but operational team coverage and referral arrangements have developed regionally. Check the route currently operating in your area rather than treating it as one uniform national service.

Independent support

ADHD Ireland provides a support line/email, webinars, peer groups, adult and teen programmes, parenting supports and school initiatives.

Children: CAMHS when needs are moderate to severe

Current HSE CAMHS guidance includes moderate-to-severe ADHD among conditions it may assess and treat. Referral is through a GP or another appropriate health/social-care professional and CAMHS triages the referral. Developmental or learning needs without a moderate-to-severe mental-health presentation may be better routed through primary care, disability or education services.
